What is the Difference Between Granite and Quartz Countertops

Granite is a natural stone that comes directly from the Earth.  With granite you will likely see random veining and a variety of color patterns.

Quartz is a man-made product made from quartz crystals and resin. With quartz, you will probably have a more even color pattern on your countertops than you would with granite.

Quartz is non-porous because of resins and the other components and requires no sealing. It is naturally resistant to moisture and stains and requires no maintenance.  Granite is porous and requires sealing every year. The process for sealing granite is simple.  With a solvent-based sealer, the entire process will only take about 10 minutes.

While both materials are strong, quartz cannot be repaired if chipped or scratched. Damaged granite can often be repaired to minimize the appearance of scratches or damage.

The cost for quartz is more than most granite but equal or less than the higher priced granites.

The decision between the two comes down to personal preference.  You can’t go wrong with either one!
